Getting Organized

Hey everyone, I hope you all are doing great!

I had sent this post out to everyone on my mailing list but I really felt that it was important enough that it deserved a post on the blog too. These are some things I’ve been doing to help my business and thought it would be extremely beneficial to you too.

So far since I’ve been learning this business and growing my websites, the things that have helped me most has been good training. There is a lot to get your arms around when you’re just getting started… You’ve got keywords, ad words, ppc, cpa, niche building, link building, …. GEEZE!  It’s enough to make your head spin and most of the time it really does!  The hardest part is that it’s really difficult to get organized.

So where do you start?

The first thing you need to do is to NOT BUY ANYTHING!  I know that may sound strange especially with the onslaught of ads from everyone telling how fast they are making money.  But honestly, if your not making money yet, you don’t need to buy anything.  You can make monecay without spending cash.. REALLY!

There two things that most people will try to sell you… Information and Tools.

INFORMATION

Most of the information that you really need you can get for free. Or from free offers.  I’ll be doing my best to post new articles to my site as well as email new site building tips every week.

If you feel you want to ramp up faster and want to get some training then I would HIGHLY recommend going with either the Wealthy Affiliate guys or the Stompernet guys. Both of these groups are the best and will help you get further in less time then you could alone.  Right now the Stompernet folks are offering a great deal where you get Stomping the Search Engines 2.0 and a copy of their new magazine NetEffect for free for the first month.  This is really a ton of info and its free. TOOLS

Now for tools. You don’t have to spend anything here either. There are some really good tools out there to help and they are all FREE! Below is a list that will help you get going without any cash outlay. Don’t you just love free stuff??  :-)

the GIMP – Free Photoshop like tool
Paint.NET – another Free graphics tool similar to Photoshop

Good Keywords – Free keyword tool
WebCEO – directory submission and SEO tool
Free Wordtracker – one of the best online keyword tools and its Free
Google External Keyword Tool – its Google, what more can be said.

Life Just Gets in the Way

Its funny how you get in the middle of a great project and then distraction after distraction takes you away from your beloved project.  Lately I’ve been feeling it first hand…  these past couple of weeks have been just crazy busy.  I was on a roll for a while and really knocking out some videos and chapters for the new online course, when BLAM!  Life comes in and reminds you “Oh shit! I have to pay the bills!”

Between work and family sometimes its down right impossible to make any progress.  And we all know, its not like you can just sit down and start hammering out stuff. Its takes a bit to get back into the frame of mind you were in when you last left off where you started.

The good thing is that projects like these are patient. They wait for our lives to settle down so we can begin again at building our niches, and our products hoping to share some of the lessons we’ve learned.

Well, I’m writing this while at work and I have to get back to it. I promise I’ll put up the first of the new videos soon so I can get some feedback from you guys!

Off to a Great Start!

Thank goodness for weekends!  This weekend was amazing. I was able to complete a good portion of the Video’s for the new course and got about a 3rd of the way through the ebook.  My biggest problem is by far the eBook.  I’m really a bad typist and almost as bad of a proof-reader- lol.  I get my thoughts together and the writing begins but the mistakes begins as well.  I’m glad my girlfriend doesn’t mind proof-reading and correcting my gramar.

But so far I’m really ecstatic over how things are turning out.  The first 11 chapters are just wonderful.  If you guys ever get a chance to play around with Camtasia, you should.  Its a neat application and its free for the first 30 days!  With any luck I’ll be able to complete this project without spending a single dime!! whew hoo!

With eleven chapters to go I can begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I just need to start limiting the scope of the project. Every day I find new plugins to discuss and each one I feel is a must have or needs to be talked about.

Writing an eBook and Video Course

I thought I would write about my new project and document each step of the way so you can see how I’m going about things, what works and what doesn’t. I’m far from perfect and dare I air out my mistakes.  I know I will be looking back at this and go.. “eww.. I shouldn’t have done that!”.. HEHE – Oh well, its a learning process for us all.

So my goal is, and I hope its not too lofty considering I really have no idea what I’m doing, is to develop a series of videos and an ebook to go long with it. I’ll be giving away the end product here on my blog. The product if you havent seen it yet will be WordPress Plugins Exposed.

Some of the things I have started or completed are:

  • General concept of the product
  • Domain check and marketing research
  • Purchased domain name and threw up a basic template -
  • The basic outline of the eBook and video series
  • Rough draft of chapter one and begun work on chapter two of the eBook
  • a rough draft of the graphic logo

So some of the things on my todo list right now for this project and not necessarily in the correct order

  • Create the graphics for the header page of the product site
  • Pick a blog theme or site theme for the product site
  • Get familiar with Camtasia for the video capture stuff (hopefully I can create all of the videos during the trial)
  • Get the website to a point where it can begin aging and get it indexed so when content starts getting posted it will begin to rank

My hope if to work a few hours every day on the eBook or creating videos for each module.

This is not a game of who the F%#! are you

My apologies in advance that you have to put up with this… but I thought I’d try out some video. After watching I was amazed at how completely boring it was… Geeze! I promise to make something much more fun soon.




Hey everyone, I wanted to break out with a some video today and do a little bit of an introduction. I don’t think anyone likes to see themselves on video but I wanted to talk a bit about my next project coming down the road that I’m extremely excited about!!

Now they always say in sales that no one really cares about you, they care about the product. Well I can agree with that partially.  You see if you can’t lend any credibility to yourself than what reason does any one have to trust you?  So I wanted to give you a little glimpse into my background so you can hopefully feel confident with some of the topics and information I present here.

So, who am I?

I’ve been working in internet related industries for quite some time now. One of the most notable businesses I helped build was Match.com. The majority of my background is I.T. or tech related, essentially setting up huge farms of servers to scale them to handle the millions of users coming into these websites.

One of the many things I learned, which is why I am building my own business, is that there is an enormous amount of profit to be made online. For example, Match.com started as two smaller businesses.  One business was in Dallas, called OneAndOnly.com.  The other had the Match.com name and was located in San Francisco.  OneAndOnly.com had the technology and Match.com had the cool name.  Ticketmaster (yes the same Ticketmaster that sells concert tickets) came in and bought up both companies.  They dissolved the company in California, kept the name and moved it all to Dallas. Voa’la – Match.com was born.

We kept OneAndOnly.com running for a long long time.  Its no longer online anymore but at the end of its life, before we pulled the plug, it was still generating over $3Million dollars a year in revenue!  Can you believe it?!?  The entire platform had gotten to a point that it was mearly a handful of servers running day in and day out that could have been running in my spare bedroom.  It killed me when we shut it down.  Anyway, during its last days, we didnt perform any maintenance on the network or the servers, no backups, nothing.  We just let it churn out the cash.  Eventually, with the advent of new congressional laws like Sarbanes Oxley and PCI Compliance – upgrade were needed and it would have cost Match.com more money that they felt it was worth to install all the firewalls and devices needed to fully secure it. So they shut it down.

The take away lesson in all of this is this is that these larger companies are actually throwing away millions of dollars in revenue because it not “Worth It” to them.  Well their loss is our gain!  And the fire to my goal of becoming successful online was lit.

Today, my online business is doing great.  I’m still new at the whole marketing thing but it has been extremely fun and I’m learning something everyday! I’ve been seriously marketing things starting around the end of May of this year.  I’m doing affiliate marketing, ppc and some media buys. I have about 30 websites that generate about $200/month in revenue for me and each month that figures grows.  And now I’m about to launch my second product that has really got me stoked!

This product will be 100% mine. No PLR content, no master resell anything… The content, videos, everything is being made by me!  :-)

So keep checking back I should be finishing up in the next couple of weeks.  I could be done sooner but i have this thing called a “Day Job” that is really getting in the way of me finishing things up!  damn!

Wealthy Affiliate

I hate to make this sound like a blatent promotion but I really want to get this out.

For a while now I’ve been reading about a program that seems to be really helping affiliates build their business. I’ve seen some fairly well known folks who are all using this to learn and manage their Internet Marketing business efforts. Review: Squidoo Profit System

I was going to write some more today about PLR content and in particular about my experience with PLR Pro.  But I’ve decided not to because there is some better info that I think you all need to know about that will greatly help your business.

My goal in this blog has been to just journal about my experiences as I build my own online business and hopefully others can learn from my mistakes.  I’m not making tons of money online. I’m not a guru but I am building my business and I am making some money.  I’m not able to quit my day job just yet.  But I am confident I will be able to some day. Each day I make a little more progress and each day I get a better understanding of what works and what doesn’t.

There’s a lot of information available from a lot of different sources on how to build your online business, how to get into affiliate marketing, and internet marketing, etc. Some of it is great, some not so great.  Some works, some is very expensive.  I want to tell you about some great information that I feel everyone should know about.

PotPieGirl.com

A while ago I came across a really great website.  Well actually several websites, authored by a girl named Pot Pie Girl (aka- Jennifer) – http://www.potpiegirl.com. Today, I can’t even remember how I found it.  but the content is just invaluable and the honesty that Jennifer writes about is rare.  You immediately feel you can trust what she is telling you is right on.  She’s not hypey in whats she tells you.  She shoots straight and I find her to be one of my main sources of learning as I build my own business.

6 Step Niche Sites

There are a lot of great reads on her websites but two in particular that everyone should check out when visiting PotPieGirl.com.  One is http://www.6stepnichesites.com/.  Jennifer could have easily charged for this great stuff but didn’t and simply has it on her website for free.  Check it out its some great stuff!!

Squidoo Profit System

The next is her Squidoo Profit System – http://squidoo-profit-system.potpieworld.com/.  Now this is not free but it has a huge wealth of information and is priced so low anyone can afford it.  For only $6.97 you get several awesome references that will boost your business and have you on your way to making some nice income from your business in no time.  (notice – these links are not affiliate links – these are straight to her site.. Review: 30 Minute Backlinks

Today I want to tell you all about a really great product called 30 minute backlinks.  Michelle MacPhearson has put together a really cool package of videos and tips on generating a lot of back links to your website and all are100% free.

For those that maybe wondering what back links are:  Back links are simply links that other websites have that link back to your site. Now as far as search engine ranking goes, back links weigh heavily in determining the popularity of your website. So it stands to reason that if you want more search engine traffic you need to get a lot of back links to your site!

30 minute backlinks provides some great tips and shows you some really neat promotional methods for not just generating back links but also helping generate a buzz about your website. Her methods are the most out of the box thinking I’ve come across. And they work fabulously.

Now I do have to admit, her package is a bit on the pricey side, but the value in the information will return your investment.  Its been a little over a month that I followed her method to a tee on one of my sites.  I did exactly as she explained and this site went up 2 Google page ranks higher than it was (now higher than all my other sites).
