Have you ever wanted to build a niche website but you weren’t sure which niche to target? A lot of people hit this wall and start wasting a lot time building niche blogs that either have too much competition or the niche is not hot enough to make any money.

And the videos are free too! So check them out … you don’t have anything to loose! And let me know what you think.  Have you used trends to find a hot market? Do you have an easier way?  Let us know!  Its comments like your make a website come alive.  Thanks for reading!

No Photoshop? Don’t Worry Get Gimpy

paintbrushThis post is another in a series of posts I’m doing on free stuff! Every one loves free stuff and today I’m going to show you how to get some cool free image editing software.

Everyone who has ever setup a website or done any kind of work on the Internet has, at one time or another, needed a good image editor to either create a cool graphic or edit a cool graphic.  Whether you simply need to resize an image, crop an image or create an eye grabbing header, software tools like Adobe Photoshop are a necessity.  But what if you don’t have the $400 or so needed to buy the software?  Outside of piracy, what do you do?

Well, beleive it or not, there are some really great image editing software packages that are a great replacement to Photoshop and best of all these applications are free!!

The Gimp

The Gimp (GNU Image Manipulation Program) has been around for a really long time.  As long as I can remember, this open source application has been a great alternative to Windows based image editors.  Originally only available on  Linux and Unix, the Gimp is now available for Windows and Mac as well!  The Gimp supports a range of common file types like JPEG (JFIF), GIF, PNG, PSD, TIFF to special use formats such as the multi-resolution and multi-color-depth Windows icon files.  This tool is very similar to Photshop and most anyone familiar with Photoshop should have no trouble getting going with the Gimp.

Paint.net

Paint.net has been touted as an advanced replacment for Windows Paint program (which is almost useless).  Paint.net is another great free image manipulation software package that will allow you to do most any web graphics work you need for your website.   With supported files types such as PNG, JPEG, BMP, GIF, TGA, DDS, and TIFF as well as its own PDN format to preserve layering similar to photoshop. Natively however Paint.net does not support PSD files. But never fear Paint.net does support plugins and there is a cool PSD plugin for Paint.net to give the needed PSD support.

There are more free image editors out there, but these are my two favorites.  I actually have all three loaded on my system as each one can do things a little easier than others in certain areas. Overall though if you can’t afford Photoshop there are alternatives out there that will get your website looking bright and shiney with the eye popping graphics we all love!

Automated Link Building

bkggifBuilding back links is probably one of the most important things you can do when building a successful blog or website.  I’m always on the look out for new ways to build back links to my sites.  The best way to build back links really in my opinion is the old fashioned way. By emailing the webmaster of a site that you like (that is also similar to the site you would like to promote ) and ask nicely if they would like to trade links.  Now, I can hear the moans and groans about a reciprocal link, blah blah blah.. yeah I know.  A one way link IS the best kind of link you can get,  but when you’re just starting out building a new site, reciprocal links work just fine. And I know for a fact a good recip link with bring in some decent traffic.

The problem with this method is that it takes time and a lot of webmaster’s don’t want to give up their link juice to a new website or to someone they don’t know. Now there are pay services such as Jon Leger’s 1 Way Links or 3 Way Links that I’ve talked about here on my blog.   I like both of these and they do work well.  But they cost money and a new site rarely has any money.  So what if I told you I found a site that will do 3 way links for FREE?!?  Yup for Free.  I’d say Hell Ya !

Daniel McGonagle has a great site/service called Automated Link Building that essentially can be compared to Jon Leger’s 3 Way Links.  It’s a set and forget system where you add a page to your site to host links and in return you get 250 decent back links to your site.   The best news is that Daniel right now is giving it away for FREE!!

Check it out if you can, you don’t have anything to loose and some back links to gain.

I just got an email from Danial today saying that he’s going to start charging for it soon (in the next 30 days)  so if you’re insterested in getting some free back links to your site. you should check it out.
